So, Facebook recently acquired the virtual reality tech Oculus for a whopping 2 billion USD. And as it is synonymous with Facebook, it doesn't do acquisitions without a reason, WhatsApp being a class example. But one might be pretty confused with this decision of Facebook. But, no, this is one of the smartest decisions made by Facebook.
Basically, virtual reality in today's modern world, is one technology that goes beyond commercialization - it is a new way of entertainment for people. As such, it is more famous with gamers, who consider this the new way of their everyday activities, who literally lead lives in games as differing characters!
But, Facebook recently released a statement saying that, this gaming feature of Oculus Rift is just one aspect that seems imminent. Well, that is true indeed, considering the fact that this virtual reality world, being an all-purpose paraphernalia for people who wish to see their work in a practical form beforehand.
This whole lot includes people who work in the construction and civil sectors, like architects and engineers. Or, perhaps, better yet, this could be a breakthrough in cinema. Imagine being an actual part of a film, not just watch it through an inanimate screen! The very idea is chilling, though this idea being brought in the market practically seems to be far away.
But there are hopes that commercialization could work on a larger level with people. This very Oculus Rift technology had been a thrilling experience for people all across the world, in fest, exhibitions and gizmo fests.
In this aspect, one can infer Facebook has done an amazing job acquiring Oculus. But now the act of bringing down the expenses for the sake of commercialization without interfering with the quality of the product lies in the hands of Facebook. Here's hoping for the best!
