The online market places are expanding, so as their verticals to make wider reach to buyers. In serious business, Askme Group’s grocery marketplace AskmeGrocery is bringing in AskmeFresh, a grocery marketplace and AskmeMeds, an online health marketplace, to take on BigBasket, PepperTap and mChemist, respectively.
The recent slowdown in online grocery has directed AskmeGrocery to expand in other segments to boost through other channels. Both the verticals will go live in coming months across 38 cities.
Ankit Jain, CEO of AskmeGrocery, said to ET , “Being in grocery business for the last three years, we have perfected our model and have taken a conscious decision to enter now.” The online pharma space is not even 1% of the retail sales hence there is a huge scope for us, he added.
According to a recent report, online grocery penetration was 0.03% in 2014 and is expected to increase to 2.9% by 2020.
The newest brand in the grocery business, ‘AskMe Grocery’ had acquired Delhi-based marketplace BestAtLowest.com last year.
Headquartered in Gurgaon, AskMe.com is flagship product of Getit Infomedia Pvt Ltd, which owns multiple platforms such as Askmebazaar, an online marketplace and AskmePay, a payment platform, under its wing.
