Bhopal-based AISECT University has won the World Education Awards 2015 for introducing skill based higher education as compulsory credit courses for the first time in India. The award was received by AISECT University’s Vice Chancellor Prof V K Verma from Dr Richard Kerby (International Advisor to UN on Higher Education), Dr Abdullah Al Shilbi (Director General Higher Education, Ministry of Oman) and Dr Kalthoom Al Balooshi (EX, Education Authority, Govt of Dubai).
Witnessing the need for introducing vocational education at higher and tertiary levels, World Education Awards 2015 were given on the basis of diverse skill development initiatives taken by educational institutions across the country. The awards aimed to recognize and reward extraordinary innovation, talent and endeavor.
The jury decided to bestow the award to AISECT University owing to the innovative efforts made by the University to introduce skill development in an integrated manner within the higher education framework. AISECT University has right from the beginning focused on skills as an important part of higher education system and has emerged as Central India’s first truly skills based University. The aim has been to bridge the skills and employability gap and generate confidence in the students by providing in-depth theoretical knowledge practically and preparing them for a brighter tomorrow. Reacting to this honor, AISECT University’s Chancellor, Mr. Santosh Choubey said, “It is great to be acknowledged at this platform and especially for the skills category as our endeavor since the University’s launch has been to include skills as an integral part of the curriculum at the higher education level. Merely providing theoretical knowledge is not sufficient in today’s highly competitive corporate world and it is vital for students to be equipped with some skills which would make them work ready and help them in fulfilling the industry’s growing demand for skilled workforce.”
Launched in 2012, AISECT University has carved a niche for being the best in delivering skill-based education which helps the students in gaining the expertise required for improving their job prospects. The University is recognized under section 2(f) of the UGC Act as well as by AICTE and NCTE. Skill development has been introduced at AISECT University right from entry level at Diploma/UG courses. The University has two mandatory skill based courses consisting of 50 hours training, in every course curriculum of UG degree. These skills, ranging from four wheeler repair to installation of mobile tower to repair of mobile etc., are on subject beyond normal curriculum.
This is not the first time that AISECT University’s initiatives have been lauded at a national level platform. In the past, the University has won numerous awards including the Shiksha Ratna Award for the Best Upcoming University in Madhya Pradesh and the ASSOCHAM National Education Excellence Award.
